PL83 Santa Clara Martha Mirabel Eagle bowl. 6 1/2"H x 5 1/2"D

$1,100.00

An impressive eagle head emerges from the rim of the Santa Clara Pueblo pot by Martha Mirabel. It is 6 1/2” tall by 5 1/2” from eagle’s beak to the back rim. Acquired from the artist at Santa Fe Indian Market in 2006. Signed by the artist.

Martha Mirabal was born into Santa Clara Pueblo in 1946. She was the daughter of Maria I. Naranjo of Santa Clara Pueblo. As a potter, Maria was known for her highly polished black slip figurines.

Martha married a Taos Pueblo man with the surname Mirabel, and moved to Taos to live. We acquired this fabulous bowl at Santa Fe Indian Market in 2006.

At the time, we were somewhat puzzled that it was purchased at the booth of a Taos artist and, although Martha was adamant that she was Santa Clara, she did not add Santa Clara Pueblo to her signature. We think we now know how all this came about, but it was more than 15 years ago.

And it has not affected the superlative beauty and powerful visual impact of the pot.
