PE32 Navajo Lorenzo Spencer bowl with weaving designs. 6" x 6 1/2
$190.00
Native American Navajo Bowl with weaving designs by Lorenzo Spencer.
Lorenzo Spencer works in the Cow Springs area of Navajo Nation, Arizona, where pottery makers use local clays and hand-build traditional Navajo bowls and vases. He is married to Susie (Williams) Crank , daughter of Navajo Rose Williams, who is considered the matriarch of Navajo potters.
Susie taught Lorenzo to make Navajo pottery. They work independently, however. Lorenzo’s designs are reflective of Navajo weavings, as shown by this example. He shapes the pot with lighter a shade of clay, adds a darker slip and uses sgraffito to alter the images onhis surfaces. Lorenzo fires naturally and coats the final product with warm pinon pitch before it cools.
6" x 6.5" #PD32
