PM69 Cochiti Pueblo Dena Suina horse storyteller. 3" x 4 1/2"
$620.00
Native American Cochiti Pueblo Dena Suina storyteller pottery horse with 8 children.
Dena Suina is one of Cochiti's most respected artists, based on her imaginative and finely detailed storytellers. In this case, she has chosen a horse as the "vehicle". What do you suppose the horse’s tail (tale) is? A sweet collector's piece in many ways.
Dena Suina was not born as a member of Cochiti Pueblo. She was born into San Felipe Pueblo in 1961 and spent most of her youth without working with clay. After she married into Cochiti Pueblo in the 1980s, Dena learned the ways of clay from her mother-in-law, Louise Suina, including how to hand coil clay to make figures using traditional methods.
Dena has been working with clay art since 1991. Dena’s style of storytellers is distinct, with tiny children, exquisitely formed and painted. She makes her storytellers with great creativity and intricate details.
