Cochiti Pottery
A particularly well-done storyteller figure in Cochiti pottery by Mary E. Quintana-Baca. Mary was born into the Pueblo de Cochiti in 1946. Mary was inspired to continue the tradition of working with clay from her mother, who her how to work with clay. Mary hasbeen a clay artist since her 30s.
Mary gathers her own clay in the hills that surround Cochiti Pueblo. She cleans, mixes, fines with volcanic sand, hand shapes, paints, and fires using a kiln to fire with a high degree of control, resulting in consistency of quality. Mary signs her art as: Mary E. Quintana, Cochiti, N.M.
