Native American Pottery, Acoma seedpot, created and signed by Diane Lewis.

White slip with multicolor Kokopelli and alternating brown parallelograms. Seed pots are made with small openings to protect the seeds from consumption by vermin. This also allows seeds to be distributed individually at planting time. Diane Lewis is a member of the renowned Lewis family of Acoma potters.

Diane Lewis was born into Acoma Pueblo’s Yellow Corn Clan 1960. Diane and her sisters, Marilyn Ray, Carolyn Lewis-Concho, Judy Lewis and Rebecca Lucario, all daughters of Katherine Lewis, are all traditional potters who are highly regarded.

Diane began pottery making career when she was 21. Her specialty, as shown by this example, is beautifully formed and delicately painted seed pots and small bowls.
