PK67 Jemez Pueblo Brenda Tafoya Vase with 2 sgrafitto owls. 4.5" x 3.5"

$275.00

Native American Jemez Pueblo Vase, by Brenda Tafoya, with two sgrafitto owls, with swirl pattern verso.

Sqraffito is made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color, typically done in slip on ceramics before firing.

Brenda Tafoya, who is the daughter of Vangie Tafoya, is an expert at this technique, as evidenced in the finesse of this bearpaw pot. Brenda also is a top-tier pottery maker using other techniques that form her vessels with particular grace.

Brenda’s talents descend naturally from her mother, Vangie, who inspired Brenda to pursue pottery making, using clays from the Jemez hills.
